In JAZZ NEWS & NOTES
When we talk about JAZZ, we sometimes get caught up in the perception fostered here in America that JAZZ is this esoteric, mysterious, and unfathomable music. Nothing could be further from the truth. JAZZ is an organic and living music that should be embraced as such. It was created by African heritage peoples in the bowels of the South on the continent of North America in the country known as the United States. This is a music of passion, life, love, and unending and constantly developing stories that chronicle the Odyssey. of a people. It is reflective of African heritage peoples creativity, genius, and human need to create a sophisticated form that could adequately express their needs, desires, and aspirations. It is music created by African-heritage peoples and SHOULD be acknowledged and HONORED as such. However it has the capacity to be enjoyed and shared by ALL peoples and beings who can appreciate the brilliance and beauty that this musc is derived from. When you approach and appreciate the music in this fashion without the baggage, politics, and madness that SOME seek to impose on this music, you begin to slowly realize how to do JAZZ the way it should be done.
